Save Mabel Memorial Chapel

        The Faithful Continued to Worship Outside

Picture
U. S. Navy Surgeon Heneberger donated a beautiful church in 1898... because the poor people of Chestnut Ridge had no place to worship.  According to oral history, in 1919, Dr. Heneberger left a large amount of gold in trust with First Presbyterian Church of Harrisonburg, that was to be used only to maintain Mabel Memorial Chapel...forever.  Was the gold invested and used wisely?  Has any of the gold ever been used to maintain the Mabel Memorial Chapel as Dr. Heneberger intended?  What happened to the gold?  What would Dr. Heneberger say about the current situation at Mabel Memorial Chapel?  Would he be happy about how his money was spent?  What would Dr. Heneberger say about how the Mabel Memorial Congregation has been treated?

 More importantly, what would Jesus Christ say about all this?

Even with their Chapel defaced,

the bell tower ripped off,

and the Historic Church Bell hauled away;

                                the faithful continued to workship outside, ...rain or shine.

                                            Once again, Chestnut Ridge has no place to worship.
