Save Mabel Memorial Chapel

JAMES  MADISON  UNIVERSITY

Picture
Mabel Memorial was used by JMU for it's very first class (1909) until 1930 as it's Rural Practice Teaching Classroom and Laboratory.  According to oral history, Dr. Heneberger was a great supporter of Senator Keezell's proposed  State Normal and Industrial School for Women.  Senator Keezell fought long and hard in the Senate for the State Normal School to be located here in Harrisonburg.  Dr. Heneberger added classrooms onto the Mabel Memorial Chapel and the Mabel Memorial School  to meet the needs of the fledgling new college,  which of course is now known as James Madison University.
